The Top Hat Trend
Slash of Guns & Roses isn't the only one wearing top hats anymore. Top hats were seen all over the Fall Runways from Wunderkind to JC de Castelbajac. Although, this flat-crowned hat has formally been used with a man's tuxedo or suit, it has been paired with the most unlikely of pieces. Recipient of the Perry Ellis Award from the CFDA and New York-based Eugenia Kim knows quite a few things about headwear, top hats included. Log onto the Eugenia Kim for more hat ideas that will top your fancy, www.eugeniakim.com.

Has the All Black Aesthetic Forced Us Into a Dark Age?
The presence of the all black on runways has been strong for three seasons now. The popularity of edgy aesthetics along with androgyny has soared. What has made black the authority in all things fashion within the passing and coming seasons? Has our social and fashion conscience entered a Dark Age?
It goes without saying that our economic and cultural state has affected the fashion industry on a whole. Designers are playing it safe with construction, silhouettes, and designs to appeal to a cost-conscious consumer. Some labels are lowering price points, scaling down on advertising and marketing. Along with some labels pulling out from their respective fashion weeks. Has our need for security and sensibility turned designer's perspective dark?
Although always classic and chic, the all black color palette has served as a comfort zone for consumers and designers alike. Consumers will always have a need for black and will not hesitate to purchase if they deem it to be an practical investment. Not to mention, wearing all black has served as an easy and cost-effective formula for instant chic. Quite possibly, the all-in-black aesthetic has been a spoon-fed, recurring trend that designers have been able rest on for fool-proof sales and progress without compromising vision and creativity.
